Hostel Facilities

Hostel facilities are available for women students in the Women’s Hostel. The Hostel was constructed under the Special Scheme of the University Grants Commission. The Hostel was inaugurated on the 1st July, 2013 by Shri Rowell Lyngdoh, Deputy Chief Minister of Meghalaya, (Local MLA and president of the Governing Body of the College).

The Hostel is situated close to the College Campus.

          The hostel comprises of 18 rooms that accommodate 54 students.There is one common room used for the recreation purposes where indoor games such as carom board and Chess are provided. Basic amenities like bathrooms and toilets are constructed on each floor of the hostel. There is a separate 2 storied building that comprises of dining hall, kitchen and store room.

Admission and Governance:

          Only regular registered students of Sngap Syiem College are allowed to stay in the hostel for one academic year only. On promotion to the next higher class, a student shall be allowed for the next academic year on the basis of new application. Hostel fee is fixed at Rs.6000 per annum excluding the mess fee.

          The hostel has a managing committee comprising of the faculty members of the College headed by the Principal. The Hostel has a Warden to oversee the ins and out of the hostellers. The hostel has got the pride of having a friendly atmosphere and ragging free environment.


          The following rule shall be followed by all students residing in the hostel. Violation of these rules will make student liable for disciplinary action including expulsion from the hostel and also from institution:

  1. A student must remember that the hostel is the home of the students on the campus, she should behave herself on the campus as well as outside in such a manner as to bring credit to her and to the institution.

  2. A student once admitted in the hostel continues to be a hostel inmate throughout the year. She has to pay the room rent for the full academic session. The amount will be forfeited if the inmate decides to leave the hostel mid-session.

  3. Every student should stay in the accommodation allotted to her by the warden concerned. She will not be allowed to change the accommodation once allotted.

  4. A student should check the fitting in her room at the time of occupation. If there is any deficiency or inadequacy, it should be brought to the notice of the Hostel Staff. She shall be responsible for the fittings and shall see to it that they are in order at the time of handling over charge of the room when she leaves the hostel.

  5. Students will be personally and collectively responsible for any loss or damage to the hostel furniture or other fittings in all the common facilities and place in the hostel.

  6. Cleanliness of the room is to be maintained by the hostellers.

  7. A student should not enter the rooms of others who are not in their rooms.

  8. Use of personal electrical appliances like heaters, hot plates, musical instruments and Electric Iron, etc in the hostel rooms is prohibited.

  9. Students must not keep valuables in their rooms.  Extra money must be deposited in the Post Office/Saving Bank Account; they should look their rooms properly when they go out etc.

  10. A student herself is responsible for the custody by all of her belongings. The institute is not responsible for any loss incurred due to her negligence or any other reasons whatsoever.

  11. No one should use the belongings of other students without their consent.

  12. No student is allowed to remain outside the hostel premises after 8.00 pm.

  13. Visitors are not allowed to stay in the Hostel.

  14. Students shall not leave the hostel for out of station visits without prior written permission of the warden concerned. Absence from hostel without permission will be viewed seriously.

  15. A student shall not handover the keys of her room to any other students except to the warden.

  16. Unless she clears her dues, she shall not be allowed to take University Examination. Further she may be expelled from the halls of residence or Mess.

  17. Accommodation will/will not be provided in winter vocation. (If they have to leave any belongings in the hostel during these periods, they should contact the Hostel Care Taker from the same but at their own risk)

  18. Change of rooms may be permitted in exception cases, provided it is deemed necessary/justified by the warden. Unauthorized occupation of any rooms or change of rooms shall be treated as serious violation of disciplinary rules of the hostels.

  19. Any students harbouring any unauthorized persons will be expelled from the hostel immediately.

  20. No resident of the hostel is permitted to take any article/Utensils etc outside the hostel /Mess premises and even to her room.

  21. No secret activities or meetings are permitted on the hostel premises.

  22. Resident shall refrain from any act that may disturb the peach and harmony among the resident and on the campus.

  23. If any of the inmate find that other students are indulging in any undesirable activity or causing inconvenience to her or to the other inmates, she should lodge a complaint in writing to the warden.

  24. Students who have finished the course will not be normally given accommodation in the college hostels, students who have not been promoted to the next Higher Class and who are not for the same reason attending classes during the academic year also will not be given accommodation in the hostel.

  25.  In case a student falls sick she should contact immediately the warden. A student suffering from infections/Contagious diseases will not be permitted to stay in hostel. In case of emergency, students may shift the patient immediately to hospital and inform the authorities at the earliest.

  26. Residents shall not get involved in arguments or otherwise interfere with the duties of the employees of the hostel, if there is any complaint or suggestion to be made, it shall be made to the warden concerned.

  27. Lights must be switch off when the students leave the rooms for all classes and vocation and when they go to bed. Glass windows are to be closed securely.

  28. Every students residing in the hostel must dine in the hostel messes only.  Individual group cooking in the rooms is strictly prohibited as it caused disturbance to the inmate. Any such complaints will be viewed seriously and seizure of the gadgets will be made along with imposition of heave fine.

  29. Every inmate of the hostel shall pay the mess bills and other charge before the stipulated date of every month, failing which fines will be imposed as per rules and regulations.

  30. The rooms of any students in the hostel can be inspecting at anytime by the warden or any authorized member of the institute staff.

  31. Mess Manager will be selected by the inmates in the presence of warden. Every inmate shall cooperate with her in the act of discharging her duties.

  32. Inmates are requested to maintain their surroundings neat and clean.

  33. Any damage done to the hostel properly will have to be borne by all the resident of the hostel.

  34. Inmates are prohibited from any writings or drawing on the hostel wall and rooms.

  35. Male visitors are not permitted any time into the Women’s Hostel. Lady Visitors are not permitted after 7.30 Pm.

  36. Perfect Silence is to be maintained in the hostel premises including rooms, Bathrooms, Dining Halls, Common Areas etc.

  37. Hostellers coming to the hostel after the closing hours without prior permission or valid reasons would be fined. Regular late comers will not be allowed to stay in the hostel.

  38. Water should be sparingly used and not wasted.
